An ongoing series of workshops designed to support the capability of Māori pakihi.

Topic – Introduction to Business and GST

Guest Speaker – Jamie-Lee Kingi (Kai Tahu, Ngāpuhi) and Bronwyn Jones (Ngāti Hine)

The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) workshop will be presented by Jamie-Lee Kingi and Bronwyn Jones. Jamie-Lee, originally from the West Coast with affiliations to Arahura, Kāi Tahu, and Ngāpuhi, serves as the Kaitakawaenga Māori for Te Tauihu. In this role, she is part of IRD’s community engagement team, which delivers services in a whānau, hapū, and iwi-centred approach. She will be joined by co-presenter Bronwyn Jones, who is from Motatau and affiliated with Ngāti Hine.

This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to business and GST obligations. Topics will include business structure, key tax responsibilities, record-keeping requirements, the process of completing tax returns, as well as the timelines for filing and making payments, GST registering, what GST is and GST records.
